Pine Street Inn’s Knit-A-Thon Pledge Drive

Hello All,

The weather outside is starting to cool off and if that doesn’t make you want to start knitting maybe the upcoming Pine Street Inn Knit-A-Thon will! Time is going so quickly and the November 4th Knit-A-Thon is a little over a month away.

So please, don’t be a square…. KNIT ONE!!!!!

STEP 1: Ladies (and gentlemen) start your needles! Start knitting your 9 inch by 9 inch squares. They can be ANY COLOR, ANY MATERIAL, ANY GAUGE, ANY PATTERN… And, you can feel free to knit as many or as few as you are able!!!!
STEP 2: Go forth and multiply! If you can knit one, you can knit two…. And so on, and so on. Each blanket will take 35 squares. Even if you can only knit a few - they will help complete a blanket.
STEP 3: Please follow the easy, step by step instructions and make your very own webpage at www.firstgiving.com/pinestreetinn.
STEP 4: Estimate how many squares you can knit by November 4th. I estimated that I will make 50 - which is a lot… In fact, I am knitting while I type this email… really!
STEP 5: Ask your friends and family to support your knitting efforts by pledging on a per square basis on your webpage. For example: $1.00 per square x 50 squares = $50.00. Or they can make the dollar donation of their choice. The donations you collect on your secure First Giving webpage will go to the Pine Street Inn’s Supportive Housing Program.
STEP 6: Join us on Sunday, November 4th from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Women’s Inn at Pine Street, 363 Albany Street, Boston (you can drop in any time during these hours). Bring your knitted 9 x 9 inch squares on November 4th and together we will assemble them into blankets. Check out http://www.pinestreetinn.org/knit-a-thon/ . If you cannot make the event, please knit anyway… Your squares can be collected by a fellow knitter or shipped to the event.

This is the perfect warm-up to get your knitting back in shape for those winter projects you have on your list! Please, join us and get your knit on! It will be fun and we will serve refreshments and food. There will be prizes too (cool ones… promise!). You will be doing what you love for a great cause. If you cannot participate I would ask that you consider making a donation at www.firstgiving.com/pinestreetinn - there are several knitters with pledge pages already.

Winter is coming. Let’s lend a hand, a blanket and some much needed financial support to the Pine Street Inn, New England’s largest resource for homeless men and women. Thank you so much for your consideration…. I look forward to seeing you November 4th!

Boston Knit Out & Crochet 2007 is CANCELLED

It is with great regret that the Boston Knit Out & Crochet, Inc.
announces the cancellation of this year’s event due to insufficient
funds.Ã‚ Ã‚ We would like to thank all the volunteers who have given their
time and effort to bring the organization this far and hope you will
join us in our efforts to bring the event back in 2009.

Any vendors and sponsors who have given funds for the 2007 event will be offered the opportunity to have this money returned to them. Boston Knit Out & Crochet, Inc. is still a 501(c)3 non profit and will continue to accept donations to support our next event in 2009.

We’re now ready to move on to the knitty gritty (oh yeah, big pun intended) of getting down to business to prepare for the 2007 Boston Knit Out & Crochet. We will be meeting every Monday at 6:30 pm as of August 6. We meet at the Boston Commandery, 186 Tremont St., 4th floor, Boston.

There are many things that can be done:

Pick up fliers to distribute to your guild, church, yarn store, library or community center.
Take on a small task such as t-shirt sales
Get details to sell a single ad in this year’s program
And lots, lots more.

Can’t make it to a meeting? Contact Satoko, our Volunteer Coordinator and ask what you can do.

THOUSANDS OF YARN CRAFTERS TO DESCEND ON THE BOSTON COMMON

Boston, MA, June 24, 2007 - On Sunday, September 30, 2007, thousands will be descending upon the Boston Common from noon to 4 p.m. near the bandstand to celebrate yarn crafts.

The Boston Knit-Out & Crochet Too is an annual event educating the public about the crafts of knitting and crochet through lessons, demonstrations, displays, and resources. Enthusiasts of all skill levels and those who are simply curious are welcome. Knitting and crochet have become a popular pastime for men and women of all ages, backgrounds, and professions, who seek a return to simplicity and a way to reduce stress. Needlecraft groups have become a hip social outlet for urban- and suburbanites alike. The first Knit-Out was held nine years ago by the Craft Yarn Council of America in New York City, and the event has since spread to Boston, Washington, D.C. and several other cities across the U.S.

Experienced crafters can enjoy the numerous product and store displays. Adults and children who want to learn how to knit or crochet can visit the Knit-Out’s instruction area. Crafters who need help on a project can consult one of the several “doctors” in the instruction area to help them troubleshoot.

Events for this year’s program include contests such as Fastest Knitter, a fashion show, knitting and crochet instruction, fiber spinning demonstrations, author book signings, a blogger meet-up and store and product exhibits.

Boston Knit Out & Crochet, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission of evangelizing the fun and benefits of yarn crafts.

Volunteer to Get the Word Out about the Boston Knit Out & Crochet Too

Our planning and To Do list is ramping up for the Boston Knit Out & Crochet Too. Please join us at our next planning meeting at the Boston Commandery, 186 Tremont St., 4th floor, Boston on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 pm.

Planning is really not the right word for what happens at these meetings. It is really a meeting to accept a task to help make the 2007 event the best ever. You can pick up fliers to distribute at your local knitting group, community center and library. Or you can get a few phone numbers of yarn stores to call and make sure they got their shop letter for getting a table.

We are also looking for story submissions to be used for press releases and posting to our BostonKnitOut.com web site. Please submit your story ideas or completed stories to pr (at) bostonknitout.com
